๐Ÿ“œ Village History

Gondhalwadi is a unique village located in the Patur Taluka of Akola District. The village has established a distinct identity for itself, shaped by its history, geographical location, and the primary occupation of its residents. Rehabilitation and Geographical Background Gondhalwadi is a rehabilitated village. Previously, the village was situated along the banks of a river. However, due to the risks posed by river floods and other natural disasters, the entire village was relocated and resettled on higher, safer ground to ensure the safety of its inhabitants. Consequently, the layout of the modern-day Gondhalwadi appears highly planned and well-organized. Primary Occupation: Extracting *Godambi* from *Bibba*The most distinctive feature of this village is its *Godambi* (cashew-like nut) industry. The village does not rely solely on agriculture; for many local families, the primary occupation involves separating the *Godambi* nut from the *Bibba* fruit. The Process: The *Bibba* (Marking Nut)โ€”harvested from forests or agricultural fieldsโ€”is cracked open with extreme precision and skill. The Skill: The villagers have preserved, over generations, the unique expertise required to safely extract the *Godambi* nut without allowing the toxic oil contained within the *Bibba* to come into contact with their hands.Economic Backbone: Since *Godambi* possesses medicinal properties and is delicious to eat, it commands a high demand in the market. This industry serves as a vital source of employment for both the men and women of the village.Population and Social Status (As per the 2011 Census) Households: A total of 219 families reside in the village.Population: Total 854 (421 males and 433 females).Sex Ratio: 1029 (1029 females per 1000 males)โ€”a figure significantly higher than the average sex ratio of Maharashtra (929). This statistic reflects the social progress achieved by the village. Literacy: The village literacy rate stands at 82.02%, with the rate being 92.18% among men and 72.34% among women. Administration and Amenities The village is administered through the Gram Panchayat (Village Council), which is led by the Sarpanch. As a rehabilitated village, its road network and sewage systems are more systematically organized compared to older, established villages. Although the village is primarily identified by its Godambi (cashew processing) industry, the rising levels of education are steering the community toward progress.summary: The old Gondhalwadiโ€”once situated along the riverbankโ€”has now settled in a new location, where hardworking hands have discovered a diamond in the form of Godambi within the raw cashew nut, thereby sustaining their livelihood with
